Description

1986 Gary Carter Silver Slugger Award from The Gary Carter Collection. The Carter family decided to hold onto Gary's World Championship ring earned in one of the most dramatic Fall Classics in the history of October baseball, but this important award shares that elite vintage and goes a long way toward explaining how the Mets climbed back to the top of the baseball pyramid after a seventeen season absence.

For the third consecutive season, Carter flipped the third digit on his RBI odometer, plating a dozen more runs than the second-place Mets finisher, superstar slugger Darryl Strawberry. And only Strawberry went deep more often than Carter's twenty-four.

This is the fifth and final Silver Slugger earned by the World Champion catcher. A full-sized silver bat is mounted on a wooden stand bearing a Louisville Slugger logo and engraved plaque naming Carter as a "Member of The Sporting News National League Offensive Team, 1986." Other winners that season included Mike Schmidt, Tony Gwynn, Tim Raines and Dave Parker. Slight handling wear, but still presents beautifully. Letter of provenance from Sandy Carter.
