1984 Tony Gwynn Silver Bat Award with Gwynn Family Letter. The most important figure in San Diego Padres history posted the highest batting average in the National League a stunning eight times, but any athlete will tell you that there's nothing quite like the first. This gleaming commemorative derives from a set of silver bats within the Gwynn family's personal archives and celebrates the Senior Circuit topping brilliance of 1984, when Mr. Padre recorded a lofty .351 at age twenty-four.

The design is elegant in its simplicity, essentially just a metallic duplicate of Gwynn's signature model Louisville Slugger, further engraved with the text, "Batting Champion 1984, National League, B.A. .351." Again, we must stress that this is not a Silver Slugger Award, presented to the best batter at each position in the manner of a Gold Glove. Only one of these bats is issued per League annually, and as such it ranks as one of baseball's most prestigious individual awards.

Length is thirty-four inches (34"), weight twenty-eight ounces (28 oz.). Letter of provenance from Alicia Gwynn.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
