1983 Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ring Presented to Brooks
Robinson from The Brooks Robinson Collection. The sports
collectibles market has boomed in the past three years, so back in
2015 when Heritage Auctions made international headlines with the
presentation of The Brooks Robinson Collection, three items crested
the $100,000 mark. One was the eighteen-time Gold Glover's 1964
American League Championship Award and the other two were his World
Championship rings of 1966 and 1970. At that time, Robinson wasn't
quite ready to part with his Hall of Fame hardware, but we're so
pleased he has since changed his mind, and that he once again
selected Heritage as the venue for presentation to the collecting
community.You'll find Robinson's personal bronze Hall of Fame plaque likewise on offer in this sale, and here is its sibling artifact, the classic ring found only on the fingers of the greatest players in the history of our national pastime and the few collectors with the means to win the scant few placed upon the hobby's auction block. Our last presentation of this format, the one issued to Ted Williams in 1966, sold in our May 2023 auction for $444,000.
The ring presents in the standard format to which the institution has remained true for decades, "Baseball Hall of Fame" standing in block text at the perimeter of a black stone inset with a real diamond on the face. Left shank pairs baseball iconography with the words, "Third Base, Elected 1983." Right shank pictures the museum's facade beneath the words, "Brooks Robinson." Interior band is stamped, "Balfour 10K" and measures to a size ten (10). Weight is twenty-seven grams (27 g.). Letter of provenance from Brooks Robinson.
