Description
1980s Montreal Expos Platter from The Mike Bossy Collection. The Montreal Expos hold a special place in baseball history as Canada's first Major League Baseball team, established in 1969 as part of MLB's expansion. They were important not only for expanding the game internationally but also for cultivating a passionate fan base in Quebec and throughout Canada, paving the way for the Toronto Blue Jays' success.The Expos developed a reputation for outstanding player development, producing numerous stars such as Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, Larry Walker, Pedro MartÃnez, and Vladimir Guerrero. The team reached its peak in 1994, when they had the best record in baseball before the season was cut short by a players' strike-derailing what many believed was a World Series-caliber team.
Financial struggles and stadium issues eventually led to the team relocating to Washington, D.C. in 2005 to become the Washington Nationals, but the Expos remain beloved by fans and symbolically important for their role in growing the sport, showcasing international talent, and representing a unique era in baseball history.
Offered is a Montreal Expos platter (10 inches in diameter). Oxidation and general wear exhibited. Please note the item comes from The Mike Bossy Collection but is not accompanied by a Letter of Provenance.
