Description

1980's Keith Hernandez Game Worn New York Mets Batting Helmet. One of Major League Baseball's all-time best fielding first basemen, Keith Hernandez earned eleven Gold Gloves to accompany his five All-Star berths, N.L. MVP, and two World Series titles. A lifetime .296 hitter, he hit .344 during his MVP season, .299 for the 1982 World Series champion Cardinals, and .310 for the 1986 World Series champion Mets.

The game worn batting helmet on offer here is a real beauty dating from Keith's tenure in the Big Apple. The blue exemplar features the Mets' intertwined "NY" in orange on the front and "ABC" on the back, with "Hernandez" on vintage blue embossing tape on the outer brim and rear. Inside reveals a brown padded leather headband, circular gray foam crown pad, and a white sticker with "American Baseball Cap...7 1/4" in blue. Meanwhile, the inner brim is stamped "American Baseball Cap." The helmet shows incredible game wear from at least an entire season, including ruffling of the team logo and discoloration of the headband. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
