    "We Are Family" jewelry!

1979 Pittsburgh Pirates World Championship Ring Presented to Harvey Haddix. Disco diva Sister Sledge provided the tunes and Parker and Stargell provided the thunder, ranking one and two on the 1979 Bucs' RBI stat line. The club's ninety-eight and sixty-four record was second in the Majors only to their eventual World Series opponent the Baltimore Orioles who took three of the first four Fall Classic contests before the Pittsburgh rallied to win Games Five, Six and Seven. Little could anybody have known that that thrilling winner-takes-all Game Seven would be the franchise's final taste of October baseball for three decades and counting.

Though the Bucs find themselves uncharacteristically on the sunny side of the .500 mark at the time of this writing, those fans anxious for ownership of a Pirates Championship ring are well advised to grab a bidding paddle, as this glorious memento of the bumblebee cap era is a gorgeous bird in the hand. A diamond-studded logo "P" is set into a black stone on the face, lassoed by raised text announcing "Pirates World Champions." Left shank finds a swashbuckler belting out "We are Family," framed by "Haddix 57," the digits being the jersey number of the pitching coach best remembered for his twelve-plus innings of a 1959 perfect game before an error resulted in the loss of the distinction and, ultimately, the contest as well. Band is stamped "10K" with Josten's mark, and measures to a size ten. Letter of provenance from Haddix' widow.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
