Description

1977-80 Willie McCovey Game Worn San Francisco Giants Batting Helmet from The Willie McCovey Collection -- Photo Matched! After a decade and a half in the Golden Gate City, where he teamed with Willie Mays and took home Rookie of the Year and MVP hardware, Stretch spent three seasons in San Diego and Oakland. When he finally returned home to the Giants in 1977, he responded by hitting twenty-eight homers and was named the Comeback Player of the Year.

The Mac game worn batting helmet presented here saw action in the 1977-80 era and features a black crown, orange brim and orange button. Identifying decals and stickers include "SF" in orange/black at the front and "44" in white on the outer brim and outer back. "ABC 7 1/4" sticker, crown padding, and headband are all intact and show wonderous wear.

One of the very few known photo matched Hall of Famer batting helmets and the only such one belonging to McCovey. For the photo match, see Getty Images 155217609. Letter of provenance from Willie McCovey's widow. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
