Description

1976 Ralph Kiner Folk Art Baseball by George Sosnak. Perhaps only Leroy Neiman's name is more recognizable to collectors when it comes to the field of sports art. And while the styles of these two celebrated artists couldn't be more different, their love and appreciation for the subjects of their work is evident. George Sosnak began his career in baseball as an umpire of military games in Germany after the Second World War, later attending umpiring school in Florida, where he called balls and strikes at Detroit Tigers Spring Training games. It was around this time that Sosnak began to develop his distinctive folk art style, characterized by charmingly crude figures and painstakingly rendered text and statistics applied with almost mathematical precision. This model celebrates the Hall of Fame career of Tigers legend Kiner, with great portraits of his batting stance and his Cooperstown plaque amidst the hundreds of words of miniature text telling his tale of excellence. A spectacular representation of Sosnak's work in flawless condition. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

Needless to say I was overwhelmed by the results of the auction and I truly believe it was Jill’s efforts in promoting and displaying the piece that brought in the extra value.
