1974 Joe Cronin Trophy Presented to Al Kaline From The Al Kaline Collection. The Joe Cronin Award was established in 1973 as a vehicle to recognize outstanding career achievements in the American League. A player-manager of the Washington Senators at the tender age of twenty-six, Cronin was enshrined into Cooperstown in 1956, and then served as American League President from 1969-73.

A silvery figural batsman, baseball and cup sit atop a brown wooden plinth. Inscription plate reads:

"Joe Cronin Trophy. Awarded to Al Kaline. In recognition for his 3,007 base hits, amassed over two decades of stardom with the Detroit Tigers, making him the first player in 47 years to accomplish such a feat. October 8, 1974."

Measures 9x10x21" and weighs ten and a half pounds (10.5 lbs.). Note: There is some discoloration to the silver portion of the trophy and the bat is no longer present. Letter of provenance from Mark Kaline.
