Description

1974-75 George Brett Game Used Fielder's Glove - Earliest Known. Above all else, baseball players are superstitious. If it works, keep doing it. Such was the case for George Brett when he ascended into the Major League ranks in 1974. A can't miss prospect, Brett settled comfortably into the Royals' lineup and never left. The only man able to say he won batting titles in three separate decades, Brett was also a sure bet at third base. Issued during his earliest of days in the big leagues is this Wilson A2000 professional model 1367 fielder's glove. "George Brett" is stamped on the inside pinkie for player identification. Heavy wear is visible on all angles of the glove. According to Dennis Esken and John Taube's research: "The interior of the glove has an 'alligatored' appearance from the repetition of being wet from perspiration then drying." PSA/DNA has also provided an early career photo of Brett using this style of glove with a "Double T" web. In later years he favored a model 1440 brand with an "I" web. According to our consignor he did present this to Brett before an exhibition game between the Royals and Cubs at Hohokam Park in 2011. Brett viewed the glove and acknowledged it was indeed one of his gamers. We have no paperwork to support the meeting. Brett gloves, especially during the early stages of his career, are virtually nonexistent. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from Joe Phillips.
