    Description

1974-75 Gary Carter First Game Worn Rookie Catcher's Mitt. Direct from the horse's mouth comes the assignation of ideal vintage to the provided Wilson A2403 professional model catcher's mitt, as Carter adds a "My 1st glove in the Majors" notation to the 9/10 black sharpie autograph on the mitt's heel. Little could anybody have known that nineteen seasons of excellence were on the horizon, and a Cooperstown plaque a decade beyond that, when Carter took up residence behind home plate at Montreal's Parc Jarry with this hefty leather on his left hand.

A letter from top expert Joe Phillips confirms the vintage and pro quality of the glove, assigning "moderate to heavy use," while pointing out a somewhat faded "Carter 8" in ancient marker on verso. While fielder's gloves have long been highly coveted among collectors for their rarity and special significance to their original owners, certainly one worn at the start of a Hall of Fame catching career is particularly noteworthy, and we expect bidding action to be brisk. LOA from Joe Phillips. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
