    Description

1972 Jackie Robinson Signed Autobiography. Sworn to brave silence in his dangerous 1947 debut, Robinson waited a quarter-century before laying it all on the line in his autobiography, "I Never Had It Made." The closing words of his foreword seem extraordinarily timely today in the wake of the Kaepernick controversy: "As I write this twenty years later, I cannot stand and sing the anthem. I cannot salute the flag; I know that I am a black man in a white world."

Robinson's inscription on the opening blank page is applied in 9/10 blue ballpoint ink, reading, "To Josephine from Jackie Robinson." First edition is tightly bound and retains its original dust jacket in likewise fine condition. Robinson would pass away in October of 1972, thus signed editions of this book are among his last autographs. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
