Historic hardware from the season Gibson became Cardinals career victories leader

1972 Bob Gibson Gold Glove Award. Though a pair of Cy Young Awards and an equal tally of World Series MVP trophies had already assured Bob Gibson's immortality as an all-time Cardinals legend, a June 21, 1972 victory over the San Diego Padres made his dominance unequivocal, passing Jesse Haines for sole ownership of the franchise pitching victories record. Presented is the most distinguished hardware issued to Gibson that season, his eighth of a consecutive nine Gold Glove Awards for his remarkable skill and athleticism in fielding his position.

The stat books justify the honor, as Gibson recorded just a single error in fifty-nine chances for a .983 fielding percentage with twelve put-outs, forty-six assists and three double plays.

The design of the award should be instantly recognizable, the eponymous Gold Glove rising from the center pedestal, framed by twin golden baseballs, all stamped with the insignia of the "Rawlings" award sponsor. A photographic image of a smiling Gibson appears at center, above an engraved plaque on the base that reports, "1972, P - Bob Gibson - 8th Award, The Sporting News, National League All-Star Fielding Team."

Award exhibits light handling wear but nothing that causes any significant visual distraction. Dimensions 15x17x6.5". This is the second Gibson Gold Glove that Heritage has had the good fortune to present, the first commanding $16,730 in our February 2014 Platinum Night auction.
