    Description

1972 Amos Otis Game Worn Kansas City Royals Batting Helmet from The Greg Stiegler Royals Bat Boy Collection.
Five times during his career, Amos Otis was able to call himself an All-Star. In 1972, Otis made the Mid-Summer Classic but an injury the game before the All-Star break made him unavailable for the game. According to bat boy Greg Stiegler, Otis injured himself the day before he was to leave for the All-Star Game after hitting his head against the wall during a game. We did consult the box score from the July 23, 1972 game and Otis did not bat and was replaced by Steve Hovley that game. Otis' kids were going to stay with the Stiegler family as Amos and his wife Beverly were going to go to the All-Star Game. The plans changed and all went to the hospital to check on Otis. Since Otis didn't go to the All-Star Game his family went to Stiegler's and they watched the exhibition there.

This "American Baseball Cap size 7 1/8" helmet was a gift from Otis to the Stiegler family as a thank you. The royal blue headgear shows appropriate use and has "KC" stickered across the front. "26" appears on the bill and reverse. The leather cushion inside remains intact but the inner crown protection is no longer present. LOA from former Royals bat boy Greg Stiegler. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
