Description

1971 Jackie Robinson Signed Check. Just a year before his passing at the young age of fifty-three, Robinson signed this check making payment to "Genevese Drug." The writing is in two hands--the black in Robinson's and the blue likely in the pharmacist's, suggesting that the Hall of Famer left blank checks for payment of the many bills relating to the treatment of the diabetes and heart disease that would ultimately take his life. All ink is 9/10 or better, and check exhibits a couple vertical fold lines but no other issues. It remains in the folder created for his widow Rachel in 1997 to market Jackie's checks, along with Rachel's letter of provenance. Letter of provenance from Rachel Robinson. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
