    Description

1969 Mickey Mantle Uniform Player's Contracts Lot of 2, Retirement Year. Hope springs eternal in baseball, and though the magic of the Bronx had faded over the few preceding seasons, and was to reinstall itself in Queens for 1969, the Yankees brass continued to believe in its biggest star. But after a painful and ineffective start to spring training in 1969, the Mick resigned himself to the fact that his career would end at eighteen seasons. As such, this pair of standard contracts, stipulating a salary of $100,000 for Mantle's pinstriped services, went unsigned. The identical four-page documents carry enormous weight as Mantle's last Yankees contracts and survive in NRMT condition with original mailing folds. Original sold in the 2003 auction of the Mantle estate at New York City's Madison Square Garden, they include a letter of provenance signed by Mantle's wife and two sons.
