Description
1965 Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Championship Ring Presented to Pitcher Claude Osteen.UPDATE: Please note that the printed catalog states diamond is synthetic. That stone has since been replaced with a genuine diamond.
After Hall of Fame aces Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax were vanquished by the Minnesota Twins in Games One and Two of the 1965 Fall Classic, it appeared that the third World Championship for the recently relocated Dodgers would have to wait for another year. But what would follow in Game Three is widely remembered as one of the great clutch pitching performances ever executed in the month of October. Facing a team that posted nearly 100 more runs than its next closest American League rival, Osteen dazzled with a complete game five-hit shutout over Harmon Killebrew and his hard-slugging compatriots. A day later Drysdale would even the Series, with Sandy Koufax returning to elite form for a decisive Game Seven shutout to set the production of the presented ring into motion.
A genuine replacement diamond is set into a large blue stone on the ring face, encircled by raised text trumpeting the achievement: "Los Angeles World Champions." Left shank provides classic crossed bats and ball imagery bearing an engraved attribution to "Claude W. Osteen." Right shank announces the special vintage along with team iconography. Interior band is stamped "Balfour 14K" and holds a sizing insert that results in a measurement of seven (7).
For reasons that aren't entirely clear, the 1965 Dodgers ring is one of the most challenging of the post-war era to acquire, with the last sale of a player example within a major hobby auction occurring nearly twenty years ago. The ring is consigned to auction by Mr. Osteen directly, and will be delivered to the winning bidder with Osteen's personal letter of provenance. Weight thirty-two grams (32g.). Letter of provenance from Claude Osteen.
