Description

1963-77 Carl Yastrzemski "Career" Gold Glove Award. In all of Major League Baseball, there is no more unusual assignment than left field at Fenway Park, a stubby parcel of ground bordered by a thirty-seven foot tall fence that transforms routine fly balls into pinballing doubles upon the slightest misjudgment of a carom. Daunting enough was the task of inheriting a position owned for two decades by one of the game's all time greats, but the Green Monster multiplied the challenge for a young Yaz, who, like his left-handed batting predecessor, experienced only the challenges and rarely the kindnesses of the Big Leagues' funkiest geometry. But unlike Ted Williams, with his single-minded obsession for the offensive game, Carl Yastrzemski dedicated himself throughout his Hall of Fame career to the idiosyncrasies of his defensive position, earning seven Gold Gloves for his efforts.

Here we present the leading symbol of that record of achievement, the rare "career" Gold Glove presented by sporting goods giant "Rawlings" only to those players claiming a top defensive ranking four or more times in a career. The eponymous Gold Glove rises from the center podium, upon which a portrait of the 1967 Triple Crown winner is imprinted. Golden baseballs are held aloft at each edge, set upon a base bearing a plaque with twin "Rawlings" logos and the text, "Rawlings Gold Glove Award, Presented to Carl Yastrzemski, 7 Time Recipient, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1977." Very light handling wear is evident only upon the closest of inspection, with the important relic otherwise presenting as NRMT.
