1962 Mantle & Maris Sneakers in Original Box. In the wake of perhaps the most exciting season in Yankee history, the M&M boys became the darlings of Madison Avenue as well as the Bronx. One savvy marketer secured the rights to the pair's names and images to endorse sneakers, a pair of which is offered here in its original Mint in Box state. These size eleven shoes bear a striking resemblance to the famous Chuck Taylors favored by NBA stars of the day, except the Mantle/Maris logo appears where the Taylor star typically would. Even the original tissue paper separating the shoes is here! The box, with its 1962 copyright clearly marked, shows a bit more wear than the pristine shoes themselves, though nothing can undermine the appeal of this hard-slugging duo's images on the box top, featured again at either end, along with their facsimile autographs. Though the Mick's face bears the brunt of the damage to the lid, the balance of the wear does not affect the rest of the Mantle/Maris graphics in any noteworthy way. If you're planning on waiting for the next offering due to these minor concerns, you will likely have a very, very long wait ahead of you. We can't recall when we've seen another.
