    1962 John F. Kennedy Signed Under Secretary of Baseball Presidential Appointment, PSA/DNA NM-MT 8. Baseball and politics go hand in hand. Both can stir up a good debate at a moment's notice. For years, Opening Day included the President throwing out the ceremonial first pitch in Washington D.C. One of the men who was at John F. Kennedy's side when he got the season underway was staffer David Powers. Gifted by the Commander in Chief to his dedicated special assistant is this 11x14" Under Secretary of Baseball Presidential appointment. Kennedy gracefully signed the bottom in 10/10 black ink. Kennedy's appointment demonstrates his love for the game and sense of humor. The following is written in calligraphy.

    On the occasion of his fiftieth birthday, I hereby appoint
    David Powers
    Under Secretary of Baseball
    White House Division
    For keeping accurate score, calculating both outcome and bets, keeping careful statistics on voting as a side-line, this appointment hereby authorizes the Under Secretary for Baseball to represent me in all matters dealing with my personal attendance at games and my protection from high flies as well as fast grounders. This appointment is based on his record and reputation for non-flinching and with best wishes for another half century of health and prosperity.
