1962 Casey Stengel New York Mets Presentational Silver Tray from the Casey Stengel Collection. Spectacularly rendered presentational piece dates from the inaugural season of the New York Mets and derives from the personal collection of their Hall of Fame manager. Clearly the club spared no expense in creating a gift worthy of Stengel, as the skilled craftsmen of "Gorham" painstakingly engraved the vast expanse of the Polo Grounds at center in detail you rarely see in this medium. The Mets logo is engraved above in similarly expert fashion, with text reading "Old Timers Day, July 14, 1962, Polo Grounds - New York, 1911-1962, Casey Stengel." The dates listed refer to the lifespan of the newest incarnation of the Polo Grounds, from its rebuilding following a devastating early 1911 fire to the arrival of the Mets franchise. The masterful craftsmanship, the pedigree of its former owner and the relationship to the first season of the Mets' existence makes this piece an absolute treasure for the serious hobbyist. Measures 14x17" in size.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
