1961-62 New York Yankees Oversized Promotional Nodder (14")--One of Two Known! Ask the hobby's foremost nodders expert, John Brey of "The Nodder Exchange," and he'll tell you that this is "the most desirable nodder in the hobby, bar none." It's a truth that endures regardless of your personal team affiliation, and it's likely due to the fact that the Bronx Bombers claimed the World Championship during both potential years of production that the uniform was chosen. While five or fewer promotional nodders exist for each of the NFL teams of the era, only the Yankees model is believed to have been produced to represent our National Pastime. And today, just two of those are known to survive.This example is by far the superior specimen, the other model quite "dinged up" but still an elite treasure due to its extraordinary rarity. Short of some discoloration of the clear coat used to seal the paint, and a few hairline cracks deriving at the neck hole, this charming little fellow has endured the passage of a half century far better than its delicate construction should have allowed. Fourteen inches (14") tall. It's a true "grail" for this popular collecting subgenre, and one of two promo nodders (the other being a Baltimore Colts example) presented within this Signature auction.
