1960 Roberto Clemente Signed Pittsburgh Pirates Player's Contract--World Championship Season! Though it was teammate and fellow future Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski who clubbed one of the sport's most famous home runs to claim an unlikely World Championship for the never-say-die Pittsburgh Pirates, the noble Roberto Clemente will always be remembered as the heart and soul of the 1960's Bucs. Though the young Puerto Rican outfielder had been a solid contributor throughout his first five seasons of service to Steeltown, it was the 1960 campaign that began an unbroken chain of eight seasons north of the .300 mark, containing four National League batting titles, a period that coincided with an equally long stint as an All-Star.

Add to these statistical truths the glory of that improbable World Series victory, and this document securing Clemente's services for the 1960 season is elevated to the pinnacle of historical significance. It is the standard, boilerplate contract utilized for decades in the Majors, designating an annual salary of $17,500. The two parties sign their consent to the terms on page three, with Pirates general manager Joe L. Brown, son of famed actor and baseball memorabilia collector Joe E. Brown, representing the team. Each signature appears in 9/10 blue ink. The approval signature of National League president Warren Giles is stamped.

The contract presents without a single condition flaw of note, only the original storage folds. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from SGC.
