Description
The first Los Angeles Dodgers World Championship!
1959 Los Angeles Dodgers World Championship Ring Presented to Buzzie Bavasi. Though he had been opposed to the ballclub's western relocation, Bavasi continued to thrive in the General Manager position he inherited from Branch Rickey in 1951, claiming in 1959 both The Sporting News' award for "Major League Executive of the Year" and the World Championship ring presented here. It marks the second trip to the mountain top for the franchise, and the first ever claimed in the Pacific time zone. This is, quite simply, the most historically significant Los Angeles Dodgers World Championship ring in existence. The Fall Classic would find the new Californians facing a Chicago White Sox team celebrating its first American League pennant since the ugliness of 1919, playing home games in front of over 90,000 fans at the Coliseum, by far the largest audience in World Series history. Despite a rotation featuring Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale and 1955 World Series hero Johnny Podres, it was Larry Sherry who claimed two of the four victories en route to the title, earning the MVP Award for his clutch performance.
A genuine diamond is set into a blue stone on the face and encircled by raised text announcing, "Los Angeles, World Champions." Left shank provides crossed bats and ball imagery, the latter engraved with Bavasi's facsimile signature. Right shank announces the "1959" vintage with imagery of Los Angeles City Hall and the team logo. Interior band is stamped "Balfour 14K." Size nine and a half. Condition is Near Mint. Letter of provenance from grandson of Buzzie Bavasi. LOA from PSA/DNA.
