1955 Rogers Hornsby Texas Sports Hall of Fame Plaque with Family Letter. Only Ty Cobb's career batting average surpasses Rajah's lofty .358, but Hornsby wielded power unlike anything the Peach could supply, leading the National League in slugging eight of the ten years comprising the 1920's. The Baseball Hall of Fame came calling in 1942 and thirteen years later Hornsby's home state followed suit, presenting this plaque " Rogers Hornsby whose achievements in the field of baseball have brought lasting fame and honor to the State of Texas." The wood and brass plaque measures 11x15" and exhibits light storage wear without any distractions of note. The plaque is accompanied by a letter of provenance from Hornsby's son William, named for the legendary slugger's brother who was shot and killed in a saloon in 1917. Letter of provenance from son of Rogers Hornsby.
