1952 Ty Cobb Handwritten Letter to Stan Musial with Spectacular Content. Arguably the greatest letter ever written from one ballplayer to another, this lengthy epistle in the Peach's favored green ink provides far too much quote-worthy content to fully supply here, talking batting averages, Williams and DiMaggio, slump busting, and, of course, the evils of the sportswriting profession. But clearly the consistent tone is one of admiration, quite a compliment from a man with a famously rigorous standard for excellence. "Seriously now, I know well that you averaged in 6 of your last 7 years .355. Does that give you a right to be so darn modest," Cobb writes. "So go out there now and lead the league again and if you don't lead both Major Leagues this year, you should be shot in the behind with mustard seed."The text covers one side of the first page, both sides of the second, and continues on to a smaller sheet of note paper for one side of a third. The first page is signed "Ty Cobb," with the postscript signed again as "Ty," with the closing suggestion, "Never change your present style of hitting." All ink is 9+/10 and pages are in fine condition with original mailing folds. Original mailing envelope is here as well, addressed to "Mr. Stan Musial, c/o St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis, Mo."
