1951-60 Herb Score Sporting New Award, Win Baseball & Cigar Holder. He's best remembered as the victim of a terrible injury on May 7, 1957, struck in the face by a scorching line drive off the bat of New York Yankees shortstop Gil McDougald that nearly blinded him and left both pitcher and batter psychologically scarred. Neither Score nor McDougald were ever quite the same players again.

This listing, originating from Score's collection, honors the pitcher. Up first is a framed (18x15") certificate from The Sporting News. This proclaims Score as top Minor League Player for 1954. Score would reach the bigs the following season. Also included is a 10" sterling silver cigar case. "Most Courageous Athlete Award 1959 Herb Score Cleveland Indians Philadelphia Sportswriters Association 56th Annual Banquet January 25, 1960" is engraved on the top. "International Sterling" is found on the bottom. The final piece is an OAL (Harridge) ball. The ball appears to have been used and has this written on a side panel: "1st Win April 18, 1958 Cleveland 8 Detroit 5 5 Hits 8 Walks 8 Strikeouts." Score did pitch all nine innings that day. We have no documentation saying this is the final out ball.
