    Description

1950's Brooklyn Dodgers Base Used at Ebbets Field with Provenance. Purportedly used at Ebbetts Field and measuring to dimensions of approximately 15x15", this vintage base exhibits nice wear, displaying a heavy canvas exterior with brown leather straps and a buckle visible on its underbelly. It is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the consignor who states that Pee Wee Reese was given the base by the Dodgers as a memento when he retired from playing. Later he presented the base to her late husband when Reese was inducted into the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Fame, of which per late husband was the president. The base was displayed, with other Brooklyn Dodgers artifacts, as part of an exhibit at the Brooklyn Cyclone's stadium. The consignor and her late husband had various connections to Major League Baseball, including a personal friendship with Casey Stengel who gave them his 1936 Brooklyn Dodgers game worn uniform which Heritage Auctions sold earlier this year for $90,000. Letter of provenance from the consignor.
