    Description

1950's Billy Martin Game Used Fielder's Glove with Yankee Legends Signed Photo Match. One lot, two (related) treasures of the Bronx. We'll start with the famous 11x14" oversized photograph of an Old Timer's Day superstar summit in the dugout. Each legend pictured signs his image in 10/10 blue sharpie: Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin, Joe DiMaggio and Whitey Ford. We believe the image dates to 1979, due to the black armband Martin wears (and the other Old Timers do not), a tribute to Thurman Munson. But now look closely at the glove that Martin holds in his hands, the unique construction and unusual lacing style.

Part two of this lot is that very glove, exhibiting years of use from Martin's playing days all the way through his tenure as Yankee manager. Not visible in the photo are the number "1" written twice on the wrist area, and a block lettered "Martin" on exterior pinky. The "Rawlings BD X" dates back to the 1950's, when the slick fielding second baseman was a member of five World Championship Yankee teams. Clearly this had to be a favorite of Martin's for the heavy wear and the long term of service. The awesome photo match is simply the icing on the cake. Glove was sourced through Martin's agent and includes 1999 letter of provenance from man who received it from him. Letter of provenance from Howard L. Kletter. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
