1946 Boston Red Sox Wool Jacket - Attributed to Ted Williams MVP & World Series Season with Player Provenance! Holding the titles of "the greatest hitter who ever lived" and "baseball's last .400 hitter," Ted Williams commands a unique place in baseball history and the hobby when the subject turns to the best the game has ever seen or the most desired names in collectibles.

The historic jacket on offer here was worn by Teddy Ballgame during the 1946 season, when he hit .342 with thirty-eight home runs and 123 RBI's, led the junior circuit in runs, walks, on-base percentage, slugging and total bases, won the A.L. MVP award, and led the Boston Red Sox to the World Series.

The jacket's body is comprised of a midnight navy heavy wool blend with black wool fleece pocket liners and a tan interior lining. The team identifiers include two interlocking chenille "red stockings" over the left chest and red/white elasticized ribbed striping on the collar, waistband, and sleeve cuffs. The jacket sports a seven-button front and five of the original buttons remain intact.

While the collar has degraded and the lining has become partially detached, the McAuliffe manufacturer's tag is still present (although well worn). Also present, are remnants of black straight stitching beneath the tag which which would have sported "Williams" in black chainlink. Also, despite the absence of the size tag, the jacket measures out to a size forty-six or forty-eight, which is apropos for Williams' lanky body structure.

Provenance: The jacket was originally acquired directly from Williams by Eddie Pellagrini, a teammate of Ted's in 1946-47, and comes with a signed letter from him recounting, in vivid detail, the the circumstances surrounding the acquisition. After an eight-year Major League career, the the beloved Pellagrini went on to coach the Boston College baseball team for thirty-one seasons, while remaining a revered member of the Boston sports scene.

The Hall of Famer pedigree, 1946 vintage, incredible player provenance from a career baseball figure, and the fact that all of the jacket's physical components comply with the specifications for Williams and the era, combine to make this exemplar a museum quality specimen and a true treasure of the hobby. Letter of provenance from Eddie Pellagrini. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA (Pellagrini LOP).
