Description

1945 Connie Mack Handwritten Letter to Al Simmons Regarding Spring Training. Al Simmons was about as intense of a ballplayer as the game has witnessed. When Ty Cobb joined Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics many people were taken aback. Not Simmons. If Cobb could help win games he was a welcomed addition. That same intensity followed when Simmons decided to retire but remained as a coach for the A's in 1945. Mack wrote this two-page letter, on Athletics team stationery, in late November of 1945. Mack gives some insight to the team's plans for 1946 and is already gearing up for another season. A few men were finishing up military obligations which allowed them to play in '46. Another player was given his release as he opted to start a business rather than play ball. Mack signed his full name at the end. Horizontal and vertical mailing fold marks appear but the writing is 8/10 to 9/10 in strength. Mack also addressed the mailing envelope. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.
