    Description

1944 Fred "Dixie" Walker Batting Title Award Presented in 1971. This gleaming and weighty sterling silverplated prize was awarded to the popular Brooklyn Dodgers star almost three decades after he topped the National League with a .357 season batting average. A gorgeous replica of the bat with which Walker worked his magic, the signature model Hillerich & Bradsby in further engraved, "Batting Champion 1944, National League, B.A. .357." At the handle is even more engraving, this reading "Presented by Walter O'Malley, Spring of 1971." O'Malley, of course, was the long time owner of the Dodgers, and a recent posthumous Hall of Fame inductee. A very slight dent at the handle is noted for the sake of accuracy; otherwise the bat presents flawlessly. Consigned by Walker's son, with his letter of provenance.
