1942 World Series Press Pin (St. Louis Cardinals). The rather inelegant construction of this press pin (and the 1943 example featured in the subsequent lot) actually makes it one of the most desirable and valuable of the past seventy-five years. Restrictions upon use of metal as a result of the nation's involvement in the Second World War forced the "St. Louis Button Co." to craft the pin from celluloid and paper instead, resulting in an infinitely more fragile keepsake that puts it high on the endangered species list. This example is missing its brooch back, but presents marvelously with just a minor bend in the paper at the bird's tail feathers. This one will fill a gap in even the most comprehensive pin collections.
