    Description

1942 "The Sporting News" Most Valuable Player Presentational Pocket Watch Presented to Mort Cooper. He was the Senior Circuit's most effective ace during the war years, but 1942 was a season of particular dominance, with Cooper's twenty-two victories, 1.78 ERA and ten complete-game shut-outs all tops in the National League. At the end of the year, Cooper was the owner of two special pieces of hardware--a St. Louis Cardinals World Championship ring and the pocket watch listed here.

The "Longines" beauty is elegantly engraved on rear case with the details of the honor: "Morton Cecil Cooper, Most Valuable Player of National League for 1942, Selected by Baseball Writers Ass'n of America, Presented by The Sporting News." Watch measures 1.75" in diameter and fires right up with a wind of the crown (though we cannot attest to the accuracy of its time-keeping abilities at present). A rare and functional artifact representing the sport's highest single-season individual honor. Letter of provenance from son of Mort Cooper.
