A Hall of Fame manager claims his first Fall Classic

1942 St. Louis Cardinals World Series Championship Ring Presented to Billy Southworth. He clashed with the gruff John McGraw during three seasons as an outfielder for the New York Giants, but many baseball historians credit that tense period of service to the National League's winningest skipper for the development of Southworth into a Hall of Fame manager himself. During the war years, Southworth's Cardinals dominated the National League, claiming three consecutive pennants and two World Championships, posting triple-digit tallies in the wins column each year. No other manager in history has ever recorded three consecutive 100-win seasons. In 1942, he became the only skipper to conquer Joe McCarthy's New York Yankees out of eight who attempted the feat.

Presented is the ring issued to Southworth for that singular accomplishment, marking the Hall of Famer's first taste of World Championship glory after nearly three decades in the professional game that had begun with his debut as a twenty-year old rookie with Shoeless Joe and the Cleveland Naps. A large, genuine diamond sparkles from the ring face, radiating toward raised text that reports, "St. Louis Cardinals World Champions." Left and right shanks are identical, supplying the classic birds and bat logo above a bold "1942." Interior band is engraved "Presented to Billy Southworth by K.M. Landis" and stamped "Hess & Culbertson 14K." Size eight and a half (8.5).

Ring shows proud wear but presents beautifully. Ironclad provenance is assured with the inclusion of a letter from Southworth's daughter. A rare and exciting opportunity to own the first World Championship ring earned by a Cooperstown immortal. Letter of provenance from daughter of Billy Southworth.
