    Description

1942 Charles Albert "Chief" Bender Handwritten Signed Letter. A graduate of the same Carlisle Indian Industrial School which provided the sporting world with Jim Thorpe, Charles Bender was considered perhaps the greatest big game pitcher of the Deadball Era, helping his Philadelphia Athletics to three World Championships during his tenure with the club. Here he turns down a request to manage in the Canadian American League. This letter (5.25x7") explains that Bender already has summer plans and managing north of the border was not an option. Letter exhibits original mailing folds and is dated "Feb. 2nd 1942" by the Hall of Famer. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.
