Description
American League Championship vintage!
1940 Charlie Gehringer All America Baseball Team Certificate Signed by Babe Ruth, PSA/DNA Gem Mint 10.The last of four All America certificates consigned to this Platinum Night auction by the family of The Mechanical Man, this spectacular specimen also bears a stellar Babe Ruth autograph, earning a perfect rating from the exacting experts at PSA/DNA. The legendary slugger signs in his ultra-rare and equally desirable, "George H Babe Ruth" format, his blue fountain pen ink as perfect as the date of its application.
Gehringer enjoyed his third and final Fall Classic appearance in 1940, but fell to the Cincinnati Reds, who avenged their 1939 loss to the American League representatives. The 1940 season would prove to be the Tiger legend's last great one, as he'd fall close to the Mendoza Line in 1941 before an abridged final campaign of 1942.
The 17x14" certificate exhibits some minor toning but is one of the cleanest of the bunch, with all signatures in perfect condition. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, Gem Mint 10. Letter of provenance from family of Charlie Gehringer.
