1939 Inaugural Hall of Fame Induction Class Signed First Day Cover, PSA/DNA NM-MT 8. The identity of a sleepy little town in upstate New York was transformed forever on June 12, 1939, the day the ribbon was cut at the newly founded Baseball Hall of Fame on the shores of Lake Otsego. Though Cooperstown had enjoyed some limited fame with its controversial proclamation as baseball's birthplace, never had the eyes of the nation been so keenly focused upon the leafy hamlet until the day that the greatest living ballplayers convened to receive the game's highest honor. This exceedingly rare first day cover, affixed with four newly released three-cent stamps commemorating baseball's centennial, bears the postmark of that historic date and is autographed by the iconic eleven known to history as the Hall's inaugural class:

Walter Johnson, Honus Wagner, Tris Speaker, Cy Young, Larry Lajoie, Connie Mack, Eddie Collins, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, George Sisler, G.C. Alexander.

Joining this elite brotherhood are the signatures of 1946 Hall of Fame inductee Clark Griffith and United States Postmaster General James A. Farley, apparently overseeing the signing of these special postal creations. All autographs but Farley's rate 8/10 or superior. The envelope measures 5x7.25" and presents with only light age toning and the slightest handling wear.
