Baseball royalty receives a Cooperstown coronation1939 Inaugural Hall of Fame Class Signed Display. The sport of baseball has long been a haven for the superstitious mind, and while we aren't quite ready to remove numerology from its categorization as "pseudo-science," it's tough to deny that the most eventful season in Major League Baseball history may well have been its centennial. It was a season of great beginnings (a rookie Ted Williams) and tragic endings (Lou Gehrig's tearful farewell). But the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown is arguably the most significant event of all, endowing these eleven men with baseball immortality for their elite contributions to the game's first hundred years.
The Georgia Peach was famously late to the ceremony, thus absent from the inaugural class photo (modern print) that serves as the nucleus of this special display. But that very first inductee to the sport's official pantheon appears at the twelve o'clock position, both in portrait form as an entry in the original Perez-Steele trading card set, and again in a boldly rendered cut signature. Each of his ten fellow inductees are similarly represented, all rating 8/10 or better on the most exacting of grading scales. The full cast of characters:
Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Larry Lajoie, Connie Mack, Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Eddie Collins, Grover Cleveland Alexander (rare full name autograph!), Honus Wagner, George Sisler and Tris Speaker.
The display is further enhanced by an engraved name plaque that underscores each cut signature, and another that identifies the photograph at center as "Hall of Fame Class of 1939." Professionally matted and framed to final dimensions of 32x42". A sturdy cornerstone upon which to build a quality baseball autograph collection. Each autograph is individually slabbed in a PSA/DNA holder. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
