Description
Ruffing wins Games One and Four to begin and end Fall Classic sweep of Chicago Cubs!
1938 New York Yankees World Series Championship Ring Presented to Charles "Red" Ruffing. Widely considered the greatest single season of Ruffing's twenty-two in the Majors, the 1938 campaign was a wire-to-wire masterpiece for the thirty-three year old right hander. Ruffing would finish the regular season having won three of every four decisions for an American League-leading twenty-one victories before supplying half of the Fall Classic victories required to claim his fourth World Championship and the seventh in New York Yankees franchise history.Ruffing surrendered just three earned runs in eighteen innings of 1938 World Series work, returning just four days after his dominating Game One start to clinch the title with an equally impressive Game Four performance. The first World Series MVP award was issued in 1955, but there is little question that Ruffing would have been the recipient had the honor been bestowed in 1938.
Instead, the sole hardware supplied to Ruffing for his October heroics is represented by this ring, an elegant creation utilizing the time-tested design common to all Yankees models of the decade. A large, genuine diamond is set into a silver figural baseball diamond on the ring face, with raised text announcing, "New York Yankees World Champions" at the perimeter. Each shank pictures a bald eagle in flight, clasping a "New York" banner in its beak and the year "1938" in its talons. Interior band is stamped "D&C 14K" and engraved, "Presented by Baseball Commissioner to Charles Ruffing." Size seven. Like the other Ruffing rings in this Platinum Night auction, this specimen presents without any indication of wear, in gorgeous NRMT-MT condition. Letter of provenance from the Ruffing family.
