    Description

1937 New York Yankees World Series Championship Pocket Watch Presented to Outfielder Myril Hoag. The 1937 Fall Classic was a rematch of the 1936 edition, as the Giants and Yankees once again assured that all baseball eyes would be trained on the Big Apple in October. And, yet again, the Yankees would send their former Polo Grounds landlords home in defeat, closing out the Series with a four-to-two victory in Game Five.

Opening the scoring of that final contest was the recipient of this historic relic, left fielder Myril Hoag, who led off the top of the second with a home run blast to deep right field. Hoag would drive in two runs and score four of his own in his second of three World Series Championships with the Yankees.

The gold "Hamilton" brand pocket watch is a charming custom job, with "New York Yankees 1937" imprinted on the dial, and "World Champs" marking the hours in affixed gold lettering. Reverse of the case is engraved with the historic attribution: "Presented by Baseball Commissioner to Myril Hoag."

The timepiece presents without any condition flaws of note beyond light handling and storage wear. A quick turn of the crown revives the ticking heart of the rare relic, though we'd assume a tune-up would be required for accurate timekeeping. The watch is consigned to this auction by the granddaughter of Myril Hoag's best friend, with her letter of provenance. Letter of provenance from granddaughter of Hoag's best friend.
