Description
1937 Babe Ruth Sinclair Oil Contest Display. If you're a seven-year old boy, this will certainly be your favorite lot in the auction. Even we have to admit that the carved wooden dinosaurs are pretty nifty, part of a gas station display promoting the famous "Sinclair Babe Ruth Baseball Contest" notorious in the hobby today for its secretarially signed Babe Ruth singles which have broken many a collector's heart. The dinosaurs each measure approximately a foot tall and eighteen inches long, with each having its tail broken off and reaffixed with super glue. The brontosaurus also has a minor leg injury, but none of these issues significantly affect the charming appeal. The stegosaurus features a sticker with the Babe' image. Joining the prehistoric pairing is a large cloth banner (17x82") announcing the prizes of the radio contest, including Nash automobiles, car radios and 500 autographed Spalding baseballs. Banner shows expected wear with staining and some tearing, but still presents nicely. Velcro has been applied to verso for display. Next, we provide an entry blank (8.5x11") for the contest, VG-EX. And finally, one of the prize baseballs itself, an ONL (Frick) model with the quite nicely forged signature of the Bambino (8/10). The most comprehensive collection of Sinclair contest materials on the face of the earth, unlikely to surface at auction ever again.More information about Babe Ruth Sports Player.
