Description
The pitching legend caps his first twenty-win regular season with a Game One start
1936 New York Yankees World Series Championship Ring Presented to Charles "Red" Ruffing. For the first time since the inaugural season of Yankee Stadium in 1923, the Fall Classic of 1936 was waged entirely on the shores of the Harlem River as baseball's fourth "Subway Series" was launched on September 30th at the Polo Grounds. Each team brought a future Hall of Famer to the mound for the Game One start, the host Giants tapping National League MVP Carl Hubbell for duty and the visiting Yankees countering with Charles "Red" Ruffing, the twenty-game winner.Though the home team would draw first blood in a six-to-one final, the Yankee offensive onslaught would prove too much for the Giants in the games to follow, outscoring the National League Champs by a margin of forty-two to seventeen to claim the first of four consecutive World Championships for the Bronx. It would be six years before Ruffing would lose another game in October.
Presented is the World Championship ring earned by Ruffing for his essential contributions to the Yankee cause, a stunning artifact heralding the dawn of the DiMaggio age. The ring is effectively identical to the 1932 model that precedes this lot, both in design and in the pristine, apparently unworn condition it enjoys. A large, genuine diamond is set into a silver figural baseball diamond on the ring face, with raised text announcing, "New York Yankees World Champions" at the perimeter. Each shank pictures a bald eagle in flight, clasping a "New York" banner in its beak and the year "1936" in its talons. Interior band is stamped "D&C 14K" and engraved, "Charles Ruffing." Size nine and a half (9.5). Letter of provenance from the Ruffing family.
