Description

1936-38 Frankie Frisch St. Louis Cardinals Jacket. Made from a 1936 game worn St. Louis Cardinals jersey, the jacket on offer here was most likely produced for Hall of Famer Frankie Frisch during the period when he was player-manager of the team. Beautiful "Cardinals" in chenille embroidery appears on the front with two redbirds perched on a black bat. A zipper (still functional) was added with "Frisch" chain-link stitched onto the inner button path. Collar displays "44" size tag and what looks to be remnants of a Rawlings label. Elaborate southwestern-style braided trim on waist and sleeve cuffs. Collar and sleeve extensions were added from additional flannel fabric. Perhaps this jacket was worn by The Fordham Flash while he was managing or at events, but this is not known for sure. The jacket shows heavy wear, with frayed red/blue/red piping (which dates the jersey to 1936), several small moth holes, and no number present on the verso. An intriguing and unique piece with Hall of Famer pedigree and greater investment potential if additional research is able to uncover photographic documentation.
