    Description

1935 Oversized Bat Lamp Signed by Approximately 150 American Leaguers Including Gehrig, Foxx.
We've never seen more Depression-era stars on a single piece of memorabilia, a fascinating but mysterious relic we assume has some relation to the 1935 American League Champion Detroit Tigers. We base this supposition only upon the apparent date as calculated by the roster of names, and the cartoon decal of a tiger applied to the bat's surface.

The cast of signers extends far beyond the representatives of the Motor City, however, to a nearly comprehensive roster of Junior Circuit employees. As anybody who has ever tried to count autographs on a bat will tell you, it's a nearly impossible task, so we stress that our calculations should be considered imperfect, and that interested bidders should utilize our high-resolution online photography as the best reference guide.

Clearly there are far too many autographs to provide a comprehensive list, so we'll stick to the Cooperstown immortals present:

Lou Gehrig, Joe Sewell, Ted Lyons, Heinie Manush, Earle Combs, Red Ruffing, Luke Appling, Goose Goslin, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, Joe Cronin, Mickey Cochrane, Lefty Gomez, Lefty Grove, Earl Averill, Jimmie Foxx, Connie Mack, Tony Lazzeri, Rogers Hornsby.

Ancient shellac has performed its intended duty admirably, preserving the majority of the autographs to 7/10 or superior strength. All listed Hall of Famers are readily legible. Bat measures thirty-two inches (32") long but the barrel is far thicker than average, about ten inches (10") in circumference. The entire lamp measures fifty-eight inches (58") high, and remains fully functional. There is no lampshade.
Our consignor came upon this piece in the course of his employment cleaning out houses in southern California. Full LOA from SGC Authentic.
