1931 Baseball Tour of Japan Medallion with Box. Fascinating design recalls the contemporary silver season passes issued at the Polo Grounds for New York Giants games, but this specimen is far more exotic, and just the second of its kind we've encountered--the first deriving from the personal collection of Lou Gehrig. Obverse features a play at the plate in relief, with text reading, "America vs. Japan Grand Base Ball Match, MCMXXXI." Verso provides American and Japanese flag imagery, a baseball with an Achilles wing, and Japanese language text. Dimensions are approximately 1x1.75". Fine condition. This one includes the wonderful engraved balsa wood presentational box. It is consigned by a Japanese national, having spent the last eighty-eight years on the other side of the Pacific.
