1930's-50's George "Spanky" McFarland Baseball Memorabilia Collection. He modeled for local Dallas, Texas children's clothing stores before his Aunt Dottie sent pictures to Hollywood in response to a trade magazine search for "cute kids." A year later, young George McFarland had been dubbed "Spanky" and cast as a star in the popular "Our Gang" series. We see him in his youthful prime in the oldest piece from the collection, a 1930's photo of the Our Gang baseball team with Spanky at the head of the line. Photo measures 7x9" and exhibits a couple small defects clear of the central focus of the image. Framed to 17x19". Finally, we have a pair of scorebooks carefully compiled by McFarland over a period of two decades. One includes scoring for every All-Star Game between 1939 and 1943 as well as early 1940's World Series contests. A later book, dating to the 1950's, is comprised mainly of regular season Boston Red Sox games, but includes most of the 1954 World Series and the entire 1956 World Series, with the thrilling documentation of Larsen's Game Five perfecto. Both books were on loan to the Baseball Hall of Fame from 1989 to 1999. A fascinating "crossover" piece for those with interests in both sports and entertainment memorabilia. McFarlane effectively signs each book at the front with his identification, offering a reward for one if lost. Typical handling wear, but no condition flaws of any concern.
