The Babe gets paid for exhibition game action...

1930 Babe Ruth Signed New York Yankees Payroll Check, PSA/DNA NM-MT 8. Just three and a half months before this New York Yankees payroll check was issued to the game's greatest figure, Babe Ruth had signed the most lucrative contract in the history of professional sports to date, a two-year deal worth $160,000. After the groundbreaking deal had been inked, a sportswriter commented that the salary was greater than that of President Hoover, to which Ruth famously replied, "Why not? I had a better year than he did!"

But the payment that this document assigns to the legendary slugger represents an amount above and beyond that record-setting covenant, as a typed memo on verso reads, "Payment account, Exhibition Games played during Season 1930."
Just below, a rare and highly desirable "George H. Ruth" signature endorses the check, apparently signing the payment over to his wife Claire, whose own signature follows in the same black fountain pen ink.

Obverse adds two more Hall of Fame signatures to the tally, those of general manager Ed Barrow and team owner Jacob Ruppert. All four signatures remain as bold as the date of their application, accounting for the glowing NM-MT 8 assessment from the experts at PSA/DNA. The check exhibits a vertical center fold line and bank punch and ink stamping, but otherwise no distractions of note. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, NM-MT 8.
