Description

    The only known autographed example!

1928 Lou Gehrig Signed Exhibits PSA/DNA Mint 9. Two and a half years ago, hobby fireworks exploded over our Dallas world headquarters as a 1925 Exhibit card autographed by a rookie Iron Horse commanded a winning bid of $35,850. We expect more of the same as the Platinum Night battle for ownership of this specimen--a full-point superior in autograph quality to that 1925 model--reaches its climax. It's unquestionably one of the finest Gehrig signed trading cards in the hobby.

Like the signed 1928 Ruth Exhibit likewise on offer in this auction, this Gehrig representation found its cover star at the pinnacle of his fame and abilities, towering above all other Junior Circuit batsmen with 147 runs batted in and forty-seven doubles. Gehrig would launch four home runs in the four-game Fall Classic sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, emphatically avenging the painful seven-game loss two seasons earlier.

This fantastic image of his world-beating swing is enhanced by one of the strongest Gehrig signatures we've encountered in any medium, one easily worthy of PSA/DNA's glowing assessment. The card itself displays a degree of handling and storage wear one would expect from nine decades of life, but these minor faults do not impede upon the central focus of the image or the all-important blue fountain pen signature. Back is blank. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Mint 9.
