With letter of provenance from grandson of Murderer's Row Hall of Famer!

1927 New York Yankees World Series Championship Ring Presented to Earle Combs. "If you had men like Combs on your ballclub, you could go to bed every night and sleep like a baby," explained legendary manager Miller Huggins of his speedy centerfielder, who showcased his endearing humility at his 1970 Cooperstown induction with the admission, "I thought the Hall of Fame was for superstars, not just average players like me." But such modesty was clearly unfounded, and the numbers bear it out. In his primary role as lead-off batter during a dozen seasons in the Bronx, Combs batted a scorching .325, leading all American Leaguers in both base hits (231) and triples (23) the year he earned the remarkable artifact presented here. Only Ruth and Gehrig stepped on home plate during that storied 1927 season more than Combs did, and their triple-digit RBI tallies would have been diminished considerably without the consistent appearance of Combs on the basepaths.

Charlie Sheen famously purchased the Babe's 1927 Championship ring over a decade ago for a quarter-million dollars, a figure that would be eclipsed by multiples were it to take another turn on the auction block. While Ruth's representation is unquestionably the most desirable of all, Combs significance to the the first great Yankees dynasty, and to the success of the 1927 edition specifically, elevates his personal model into that same rarified air.

The design conveys an understated elegance absent from the ostentatious monsters of the modern Championship breed, a large diamond set at the center of the spokes of a star on the face, encircled by raised text announcing, "New York Yankees World Champions." Each shank delivers the same patriotic design, an eagle in flight framed by the words "New York" above and the year "1927" below. Interior band measures to a size ten and a half and is artfully engraved with "E.B. Combs" in the same scripted font seen on the few other '27 Yankees rings that have entered the collecting hobby. Dieges & Clust's maker's mark appears inside the band as well, along with a "14K" gold content identifier. Proud wear is evident in the smoothing of some of the design's sharper features, but the aesthetics remain very strong, as our catalog imagery should convey. It's unquestionably one of the most significant Championship awards Heritage has had the good fortune to offer, an artifact worthy of a place of honor in the finest of private collections. Letter of provenance from grandson of Earle Combs.
